Upama in 10 minutes/ SImple Upama/ Instant Upama recipe

It was a dream to start a recipe blog since a long but due to some or other reason it won't happen.... But better late than never so i finally the dream come true and i have started this blog.:-)

As the name suggests i would like to start with a simple recipe which can be tried by any one easily. So i started with the quick breakfast recipe Upama. This basic recipe i have learnt from my mother. May be later i will share some more variations in future posts!

Ingredients:
Rava/Suji - 1 cup
Oil- 2 table spoons
Mustard Seeds- 1/2 teaspoon
Asafoetida/Hing- 1 pinch
Udad Dal- 1 teaspoon
Chana Dal- 1 teaspoon
Dry Red Chilly- 1
Cashew Nuts- 7-8 pieces
Grin Chilly- 2 small (Chopped)
Onion- 1 Medium (Finely Chopped)
Curry leaves- 2-3 leaves
Curd- 2 tablespoon
Hommade sambhar powder (Optional)
Water-1 glass
Salt- as per taste
Coriander-For garnish

Preparation Time: 15 Minutes

Method:
1. Finely chop Onion and Green Chilly. Clean the rava/suji and keep ready.

2. In a kadai put oil and put on the gas. Add Mustard seed to it and wait till it crackles.
Then add udad dal and chana dal and roast. then add cashew nut and red chilly.

3. Now add a pinch of asafoetida and finelly chopped onion, green chilly and curry leaves. Cook for 2 minutes.

4. Now add rava to it and roast it for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.

5. Once the rava is roasted (will give nice aroma and colour will change slightly) add curd to it.

6. Then add water  and mix immediately with spatula in order to avoid lumps. Add salt to taste.Keep steering till the upma cooks to avoid the sticking to the kadai.

7. Once it will be cooked it will start bubbling on the sides of the wall. See the picture.

8. Garnish with coriander and serve hot.

Tips:
It can be served with little amount of sev / bhujia.
To enhance the taste homemade sambhar powder can be added to masala during roasting of onions. I generally add it.
Amount of water can be changed as per choice of consistency.
